What's in a Name?
Of all the things our Kindyn could be, was supposed to be, dreamed to be....
........a memory was never one.
Lucas & Niko,
Let me tell you about your dad, his name, and your own names.
He came into this world 2 months early and thank goodness for plumbers, we were ready.
We decided on 'Kindyn' wanting a name not common, and as cool as Jinkins with i's, as well as your uncle's name, Kaison (pronounced K Sun)
I was seeing the doctor once a week due to high risk of diabetes, and on the way to the weekly appt, where i45 southbound turns onto the toll road, a plumbers van was beside us. "REED'S PLUMBING" I said outloud "hhmm.. Kindyn Rheed" and your Pop said "yea I like that" and I had to spell it with an H.
Your dad didn't like the H, so Lucas, he felt like was doing right by you by dropping the H. I wish now more than ever he had kept it, but I still respect his feelings & decision.
He was born about 6 hours later, and that middle name didn't exist at all prior to that plumbers van. We were just drawing a blank up to that very moment on i45, heading to what was supposed to be just a weekly routine check up, with two full months to go.
Born 30nov1995, but was expected 02feb1996.
Lucas your mom named you Lucas; she was strongly considering Luca / Luka. She was adamant about Reed, but asked me what I thought about Luca/Luka and I liked it. She kept going back and forth, and Lucas Reed Jinkins was it because she always liked Lucas. Luca Reed Jinkins worked, but Lucas was in her heart, and you sat so close to her heart for 37 weeks, it was to be.
Niko. Your mom and dad decided your dad would pick your full name. Your dad felt very passionate about two names and they landed on you.
Nikola Tesla was an inventor who your dad felt his heart, passion and spirit were honorable. He admired his work, his approach to his work, his spirit to man kind, and his character in how he lived and accomplished his life. Nikola would be the first name, and Niko would be used in short.
Malcolm. I was not crazy about Malcolm at all.
Not At All. Being me, I questioned your dad on it, and asked him to reconsider. It wasn't until you were 3 yrs old, I was in the car with your dad, we were running errands and he asked me to listen to some songs he cared about. Everything about your middle name changed that day.
Mac Miller - Malcolm Miller a rap artist who your dad admired for his prose, his struggles, his determination to find his solid ground, and his ability to see, define, and live with his own weakness and failure, yet find success among the mess.
I had just judge him as a rap artist who I knew to have lost his life to drug abuse.
I had no idea, and so much worse, I judged without asking, learning, or caring.
While your dad never argued, never got upset with me.
He just silently accepted my opinion, went on with his own, and made the decision he felt in his heart.
I was so proud of him that day in the car.
I remember telling him I was sorry as tears burned my eyes and I fought them. I didn't want to be dramatic, I wanted to be so sincere and respectful of the maturity my son showed in the 3 years since naming you, knowing I held such dislike for his decision.....
I felt great shame in myself and great pride in him at the same moment.
I hope you both take great pride in knowing the origin of your names.
Jinkins is equally special.
Your Pop, dad and uncle wear the name well, and our little "Jinkins of Four: Houston Chapter" was forged and bonded out of love and commitment to each other.
I'm proud to be Mrs Jinkins, because the Mrs Jinkins before me, your Great Grandmother, Ruby Jean Akridge Jinkins, was a wonderful, kind and giving mother and grandmother.
Your Pop got his unyielding kind, gentle and loving heart from her.
Your dad is an unbelievable combination of that lineage and my own dad, your great grandfather Franklin D. Farley. (Oklahoma Cherokee dissent)
Your dad's features reflect this combination, and Lucas you look just like your dad.
Niko, you are the spitting image of your mom and your uncle, her brother.
You have a half brother, Noah.
He lives with his dad, and he looks just like his dad.
Fair skin, ginger hair. He was 9 years old when you were born and was excited to be a big brother to twins. Your dad bonded closely with Noah before you were born. We were proud of how he cared about Noah's safety and happiness. He spent time outside racing remote cars or playing with drone type flying balls - but they shared a lot of joy in challenging each others ability playing video games.
We knew Kindyn would struggle financially but not a lot of young families don't. We never once had reason to question his ability to love, care, or engage and bond with his children. He was a complete natural. His easy going personality, his adventurous kid at heart playfulness... his patience. We not only knew, we witnessed.
Your names are as much your identity as the very blood in your bodies, the prints on your finger tips.
I hope you see the deep sincere thought and meaning put into your names. Your dad's identity lives on within you and for us, we are not only proud, but know you will be too.
